This is a comprehensive Spanish language program that provides immediate access to functional language skills for non-Spanish-speaking medical, school, office secretaries and receptionists. The language component utilizes phonetic encoding to present the most important Spanish commands, questions, and phrases pertinent to secretarial and receptionist work. No prior knowledge of Spanish necessary.

 

 

Italian for Cultural Enrichment (039451)

A beginning course that presents the fundamentals of Italian and provides the tools for students to acquire elementary linguistic proficiency. The course emphasizes the communicative use of all language skills: speaking, reading, and writing. Special emphasis is placed on providing insights into Italian-speaking regions. Note: This course is not appropriate for students who have taken and passed two or more years of Italian within the past three years.

Mythic Re-Membering: Snow White, The Snow Queen and Frozen (038896)

Students will examine the tales of Snow White, The Snow Queen and Disney’s Frozen. Looking at these tales will foster a discussion including history, archetypes (i.e. the maiden’s journey), functions of myth, and processes for transformation. The course will also look to memoir in the form of music and poetry, media's responses to these tales, and ways in which we individually relate to them, leading us to a mythic re-membering of ourselves.

The study and performance of nineteenth and twentieth-century concert band literature. Course addresses rehearsal techniques, development of sight-reading and public performance skills, and historical background of the concert band repertoire.

Ballet Basics for Fitness is the ideal class for adults who always wanted to try ballet but have never had the chance, or for those who have been dancing for years. This class is open to any adult of any skill level, even those who have never danced before. Posture and alignment based ballet technique married with yoga and pilates inspired floor-work will lengthen and strengthen muscles and increase grace and flexibility. No leotards required!

This is a short seminar on wild mushrooms. A three hour lecture and slide show comprises the first day of class. The second day will be a field trip for collecting and identifying wild mushrooms with the class ending with a short mushroom cooking lesson.
