This two-year degree program is designed to prepare graduates for immediate employment in private industry or state or federal agencies, including the US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and the California Department of Forestry. These positions usually involve working out of doors in a forest setting, under the supervision of a professional forester or natural resource manager. The program also partially prepares students for transfer to a four-year university to earn a bachelor of science degree in forestry, natural resource management, environmental science, and other related fields. This program does articulate several forestry courses directly to the forestry program a Humboldt State University.
Natural Resources Option with the Associate in Science Degree
This degree is designed to transfer more units to a university than the Forestry Option, and to provide a broader range of natural resource-related courses. With the Aquaculture component of this option, graduates are also qualified to obtain positions in the fish hatchery and aquaculture fields. Students who want to transfer to a university in an environmental science or general natural resource management degree program will be able to transfer more units to that type program from this option rather than the Forest Technology option.
