English 150:

WEEKLY COURSE SCHEDULE:  Week 1

Note
: The Writing Center does not open until Week 2, so you have no obligation to attend the Writing Center this week.  Starting in Week 2, you'll need to spend 1 1/2 hours every week in the Writing Center.  If you fail to keep up with your hours in the Writing Center, you may fail English 150L, so make sure to bank extra hours early on.  The tear off forms that you filled out for the Writing Center will be returned to you with the approved time slot.
Class 1

8/25

1) Introductions
     2) Go over syllabus in groups.
    3) Fill out student information sheets.
4) Fill out Writing Center tear offs and turn in to Dave.  As in the Note above, he'll return these to you as soon as he gets them back from Leslie Leach, the Writing Center Manager.

Homework 1) Read the Letter Assignment and write your own letter.  It should be double spaced and two pages.  Remember, we're going to be sharing these in class, so make sure to write for the class.  Letters that are short of two full pages will be scored accordingly.  (20 pts.)
2) Buy your materials in the bookstore: you'll need to have the booklet for the next class to take notes with.

Class 2

8/27

1) Group quiz on the syllabus. (10 pts.)
2) Writing Center tour
3) Share letters on writing experience.
4) Copy editing marks introduced

Homework 1) Memorize the copy editing marks for a quiz at class 5.  Don't forget that Monday is a holiday
2) Read "Klamath Doldrums," the first of the articles in your class booklet, which you can find on pp. 71-79.  When you're done, look at the journal link, so you know what we'll be writing on in class next Monday.  Bring binder paper and a pen for this.

Note:   The above assignments and deadlines are subject to change in the event of extenuating circumstances.
