Publishing Links


(One of the best links in the lot) Poets & Writers Magazine (look in bottom right hand corner for the classifieds): This is an excellent resources for publications, conferences, contests, etc.  This is much easier and cheaper to use than a Short Story Writer's Market.  It comes out every two months.  Fill out the form for access to the classifieds; the classifieds need to be selected from the pull-down menu in the box.  

And here's an even better one Duotrope (which has publications, genres, pay rates, length requirements, etc.)

Amy Stewart's website: Local writer and Northcoast Journal columnist's personal website.

Anderbo: an award-winning online journal (up to 3500 words in fiction).

Ecotone: very good magazine (both poetry and prose) that focuses on environment and place

Fiction Attic.com: Website that focuses on short shorts.  Run by novelist and short story author Michelle Richmond.

Five Fingers Review: A Bay Area literary magazine that publishes consistently excellent work.

Glimmer Train: an excellent magazine that regularly sponsors fiction, short fiction, and poetry contests.  

The Ledge: Offers an affordable fiction contest.

Perigee-Art.com: A former student of mine Ben Arnold helped to start this online literary journal.  He just alerted me to the fact that they are now offering a literary contest.  Check it out for details.  At least one former student of mine has published in this journal, as have I.  

Pacific Northwest Writers Association: Offers a variety of contests in different areas.

Poets & Writers: College of the Redwoods' literary magazine.

San Francisco Station: This website has a nice overview of what's happening in San Francisco's literary scene, including articles and a calendar for readings

Toyon: HSU's literary magazine, which accepts fiction and poetry (deadline is Oct. 31 every year).
