Eureka. Wendy Butler hosts viewing and discussion of the film and original
story by Arthur Conan Doyle.
Friday, Oct. 12 and Friday, Oct. 19. at 7 pm in the Forum Theater on the main
Eureka campus. College of the Redwoods’ Book of the Year committee
will present a collection of “The Kite Runner” and Afghan-themed videos.
Free and open to the public. “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini is the
CR/Humboldt State University 2007 Book of the Year.
Remember, all you have to do is go, take notes, get a program of ticket stub, and write a one-page journal (double-spaced) that is your review of the event. The journal is due at the next class session.

The question that you will be answering (in essay format) for the midterm is "What comment does Buzzati seem to be making about beauty and how society views it?" You may bring the marked up copy of the story, as well as a brief outline--no drafts or paragraphs written out. (If you miss class when this story is distributed, it is your responsibility to go see Dave during his office hours and pick it up.) | ||

| Homework | 1) Review your notes on Top 10 errors in writing about literature and your pretest in preparation for a midterm next week (Class 15). We'll have one more pretest at Class 14, as well as a review session on how to write a short essay. | |
| 2) Everyone reads "The Tell-Tale Heart" on p.279 and the secondary source material from pp. 283-289. Also read the section on drafting and revision on pp. 1418-1432. This section is great because you get to see how a student's ideas evolve through revision. | ||
