2) Read Dave’s letter about being a writer and write your own such letter.
3) Get all your materials for class on Wed., 9/1 (10 pts.)

2) Read pp. 1-6, an introduction to reading in PH and Hopkins 'Lockdown,” p. 125 and do Journal 1 in class booklet (don't forget that whenever we do a journal, you'll need to bring the journal and your PH to the next class.

WEEK 2: LAB: WHAT'S THE SUBJECT? WHAT'S THE VERB?
Don't forget the Writing Center starts this week! You should take your and your schedule; remember to do 1 1/2 hrs. for the week.

1) Quiz on copy editing marks
2) Go over Journal 1 and score
3) Go over Opening Strategies in your class booklet
HW: 1) Read in your class booklet "First Thoughts" by Natalie Goldberg, pp. 10-11
2) Also read "The Power of Detail" in your class booklet, pp. 12
3) Type up a one page double-spaced list starting with the sentence: "The best things in my life are:" (The list should not be numbered. When an item goes more than one line, indent the subsequent lines. The list should show some variety; for instance, you might use favorite days, food, cars, friends, places, songs, events, people, relatives, memories, paintings, etc. Make sure to use lots of specific detail. Also make sure to use as many sensory details as possible, so we can see, hear, smell, touch, and taste your details.)
