Eureka Each semester, the Eureka campus presents a showcase of original writing by students, faculty, and staff. This college-wide celebration of fine prose and poetry, sponsored by the English Department, is held in College of the Redwoods’ Forum 100. The spring 2009 submissions are currently open and will extend through March 25, 2008 at 4 pm. The reading of the accepted work will be presented on Friday, May 1 at 6:00 pm in Forum 100. ___________________________________________ Prizes*: First place in poetry and in fiction will receive gift certificates of $25 each from our sponsors. New: There will be a $25 prize for the best limerick. Remember, it will be read publicly and published, so it has to be in good taste. New: There will be a $25 prize for the best poem in form, such as a sonnet, villanelle, etc. Cowboy poetry and other rhyming forms will also be considered. * Prizes are not awarded to CR faculty or staff. We only accept electronic submissions. In order to email your fiction or prose to Poets & Writers, please save the work in either Microsoft Word or Word Perfect (the version does not matter) and attach it to your email. (Do not zip files.) Within your word processing document, make sure that the first page of your document contains your name, address, daytime telephone, City/State/Zip, and title(s) of the piece(s) you're submitting. Also indicate whether you're a student, faculty staff member, or community member.. Do not put your name on any of the pieces you submit. Del Norte: The Kerf The Kerf is a nationally circulated poetry magazine published each May by College of the Redwoods. The editors are especially interested in themes related to humanity and/or environmental consciousness but are open to diverse subjects. Submit typed manuscripts of up to seven pages between January 15 and March 31 annually. Include a brief biography and SASE. Payment is a copy. The Kerf does not accept electronic submissions. Mendocino: Todd Point Review Todd Point Review is edited by students in English 70 and published each May. Editors are interested in submissions of fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry, black and white photos and line art. Submissions from students at all three campuses of College of the Redwoods will be considered between January and March each year. Please include SASE along with a submission of 3 to 5 poems or up to 10 pages of prose. |
