Jerry RohdeJerry Rohde became a Biographer of Place in the early 1990s. All
of his writing since then has dealt with the intersections of space
and time, of history and geography, of location and commemoration—of
telling the stories that the earth remembers. He looks and listens,
and then tries to transcribe the legacy of the landscape. His works
include Humboldt Redwoods State Park: The Complete Guide (with Gisela Rohde,
1992), Redwood National & State
Parks: Tales, Trails, & Auto Tours (with Gisela Rohde, 1994), Mount
Rainier National Park: Tales, Trails, & Auto Tours (with Gisela
Rohde, 1996), Traveling the Trinity Highway (with Ben Bennion and dozens of geography
students, 2000), Best Short Hikes:
Redwood National & State Parks (with Gisela Rohde, to be published
2005), History of Humboldt County:
Peoples & Places (in progress), “Tales & Trails of the
Redwoods,” weekly column in the Redwood
Record, 1991-1993, and “The Presence of the Past,” quarterly column
in the Humboldt Historian,
1996-2004. |
