Begun over 14 years ago as a play development group, PLAYS-IN-PORGRESS is now entering it 10th anniversary season of full production of new and innovative plays at the World Premiere Theatre with the opening of its 2001-2002 season. At Plays-In-Progress every play is a world premiere by up and coming, as well as established, playwrights from across the nation. Playwrights are in residence at Plays-In-Progress during the rehearsal of their play and the public is invited to meet and talk with them opening weekend as we celebrate the grand opening of their work Plays-In-Progress also features Spring and Fall Festivals of New Works (our reading series featuring California writers), second stage productions, our Annual High School Short Play Festival and our popular Women's Festival, A VOICE OF HER OWN: CELEBRATING WOMEN IN THE THEATRE produced in conjunction with WOMEN ON STAGE. We open our 10th season with this delightful comedy by California playwright, Peggy Dougherty. This hilarious romp takes twists and turns as we try to unravel the who, what, where and with who of the lives of our couples.

Four brothers return to the family summer cabin to try and unravel the tragic events that happened nine years earlier and understand the rippling effect it had on their lives. The production again brings together the writing/directing team of Sue Bigelow-Marsh and Janice Goldberg for their 8th collaboration.

HIGH SCHOOL ONE-ACT FESTIVAL

This festival featuring the best original work by local high school youth is quickly become an annual tradition at Plays-In-Progress. Young writers, actors, director and technicians will showcase their work in this month long festival. The Best of the Festival will perform at the Morris Graves Museum of Art on Saturday, February 23rd as part of the Humboldt Arts Council's Performing Arts Series.

This drama is set in a small family tavern late one evening. A stranger arrives, and becomes part of their lives, both past and present. Beautifully written characters and their lives are delicately interwoven in this powerful modern drama.

Harriet has played cards with Cookie, Mildred, and Sarah for twenty-two years. When illness, the other woman, and death enter Harriet's life , she realizes she's shared a lot more than just cards with these women. JUST THE SWEET STUFF explores the bonds of friendship, family ties, and our own mortality. It shows the vitality, sexiness and, yes, the feistiness of women who have lived long enough to know what they want.
