COLLEGE OF
THE REDWOODS Board
of Trustees Policy No. 301/402
A. Title
5, California Code of Regulations, Section 51010 requires that community
college districts adopt district policy which describes its equal opportunity
and diversity in employment program.
B. Rationale:
1. The College recognizes that diversity
in the academic environment promotes cultural awareness, mutual understanding
and respect; stimulates intellectual thought and exchange of ideas; provides
positive images and role models for students and staff; and more adequately
prepares students to be effective participants in today's international
society.
C. It
is, therefore, the intention of the College to maintain an Equal Employment
Opportunity and Diversity Plan, which will increase the cultural and ethnic
diversity of the staff.
1. As part of its hiring criteria, the
District will seek faculty, staff, and administrators who are sensitive to and
have an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural,
disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
2. Except where "business
necessity" dictates, all positions shall be subject to open recruitment,
and vacancies will be widely advertised.
