Title III Abstract

CR Title III Grant
"Strengthening Decision-Making by Integrating Data and Research"

College of the Redwoods will realize 1.6 million dollars over five years (October 1, 2005 through September 30, 2010) to develop a sustainable Institutional Research function integrated across CR's academic programs, institutional management, and fiscal planning.

In response to what the CR community has been seeking for a long time and identified as a critical need in CR's Strategic Plan, WASC Accreditation processes and the CR research study "The Underprepared", focusing the Title III Grant on Institutional Research will enable CR to produce, analyze, plan from, and manage by real data.

Major Grant Activity: See Abstract
To improve college decision-making and resource allocation by integrating data and research into academic program planning, institutional management, and financial planning.

Strategies:

  1. Establish a Comprehensive Institutional Research (IR) Function
  2. Integrate Data and Research into Academic/Program Planning and Decision-Making
  3. Integrate Data and Research into Institutional Management
  4. Integrate Data and Research into Fiscal Planning

A Brief History

In Spring 2003, President Casey Crabill announced CR's interest in applying for this federal grant and called for volunteers to work on building a Title III project.

Over 40 volunteers stepped forward to work on the project, which initially was visioned as three interconnected activities: developmental education, student learning support services, and institutional research.

At a district-wide "Title III Kickoff Meeting" in Fall 2003, three committees comprised of interested volunteers were formed and began efforts developing each of these activities.

Out of district-wide committee work in Fall 2003 and the 2004 requirements for Title III grant applications, Institutional Research (IR) emerged as the grant-fundable critical need at CR.

The grant was submitted in Spring 2004, but was not considered for funding until Spring 2005.

In July 2005, CR was notified that a Title III grant of $1.6 million dollars over five years had been awarded.

The official launch of the Title III Grant effort at CR began in October 2005.
