What age can my child begin attending the Child Development Center?
We care for children as early as 18 months old and continue through kindergarten age.

Can my child attend if they aren’t potty trained yet?
Yes! We have children in the center in all stages of development and learning to use the toilet is a developmental step for children. We happily work with the parent and child to make “potty training” a non-threatening, relaxed process.

How do I know if my child qualifies for financial assistance?
The College of the Redwoods Child Development Center receives funding from the State Department of Education, Child Development Division, the CalWorks childcare reimbursement program, the Redwoods Community College District, and parent fees. The funding from the State Department of Education, Child Development Division and CalWorks provides subsidized childcare for eligible, low income families. If you have further questions, or to explore your family’s individual situation, please stop by the center, or call 476-4337.

Do you have waiting?
We maintain a waiting list for services in most classrooms. We do have limited availability. Because we are state funded, our first priority is to serve the students, faculty, and staff of College of the Redwoods. With that group, income and size of family play a role in placement order. We encourage others to inquire regarding the availability of care and be put on the waiting list of space is not currently available.

I am an ECE student. Where will my classes be held?
The early childhood education classroom is located next to the front lobby of the center. Because we are a licensed facility and have children here Monday – Friday, we have a separate entrance for our ECE students. All ECE students must enter their classroom through a locked fence/gate which opens 10 minutes prior to the beginning of class. The ECE classroom has a bathroom which is available in the classroom so it isn’t necessary to enter the child development center.

When in doubt about your child's health, keep him/her home.  Please remember that the teachers and other children will be exposed to the illness that an ill child may bring to school.  Keep your child home if he/she:

•     is in the first two days of a cold
•     has a sore throat
•     has had a temperature of 101°F or higher, with or without other symptoms, in the past 24 hours
•     has been vomiting in the past 24 hours
•     has had diarrhea in the past 24 hours
•     has had an unexplained rash
•     has impetigo (strep or staph infection on the skin)
•     has untreated conjunctivitis ("pink eye")
•     has chickenpox, until the vesicles are crusted over
•     has lice or nits (the CDC has a nit-free policy)
•     or any other contagious disease or condition
