INTRODUCTION TO MICROSOFT WORD (GUID 180 or 379)

Learn the basics of word processing using business documents and college papers. Topics include: saving and retrieving documents, entering and editing text, using spell check, and formatting documents using MLA standards.

Class Meets: TBA 1 hour per week
plus additional lab hour to be arranged with instructor
Length: 1 semester, 15 weeks (repeatable)


ADAPTIVE SOFTWARE – Independent Study (GUID 180 or 379)

An introduction to specialized software and hardware for students who have significant reading, keyboarding, and/or vision problems. Includes training in computer screen magnifiers (ZoomText) and screen readers (JAWS), speech recognition (Dragon NaturallySpeaking), word prediction (Co:Writer and Kurzweil 3000), and/or adaptive mouse substitutes or other hardware.

Class Meets: to be arranged with instructor, at least 2 hours per week
Length: 8 weeks (repeatable)

 

INDEPENDENT STUDY (GUID 180 or 379)

Students may choose to learn a variety of different computer programs and skills. This miniclass is also useful for students concurrently enrolled in other computer classes on campus.

Class Meets: to be arranged with instructor, at least 2 hours per week
Length: 1 semester, 16 weeks (repeatable)


All students should plan to schedule a half-hour intake appointment with instructor to schedule computer time and to fill out your goal sheets.
