Take Home Quiz: Elements of a Research System
This isn't really a take home quiz in the strictest sense; it is more like take home preparation for an in-class quiz you'll do with 3-4 other students in class.
The instructions for that quiz will be as follows:
You have 30 minutes to work with 3-4 other students to develop a visual aid (using poster board, pens, graphics you've brought with you, etc.) that helps you share with the rest of the class useful research strategies that members of your group use. Think specifically of illustrating how you do the following:
Use the note cards, pens, paper, tape, poster sheets I give you, along with the research sources for your third essay and any other prepared material you’ve brought with you today. We’ll conclude with each group explaining the strategies they’ve illustrated.
This quiz is worth 10 points, and you will be graded as follows:
Each of your group members will submit to me anonymous evaluations (on a scale of 1-10) of each group member's contribution and preparedness. Your score for the quiz will be an average of the scores your group members submit (note: I will be assigning groups).
Prepare for this quiz by thinking about what you actually do that works in the process of researching. Take notes about what works and what things you think should be avoided, common problems and usable solutions, etc. Come to class prepared with graphics and information you can use in your presentation.
