English 1B: Ana's Grotto

Step 1

Go to the following website:

Step 2

Explore Ana’s Underground Grotto, paying particular attention to what the web author says and how she says it.  Look, too, at the layout of the webpage (how it is set up, colors, etc.)

Step 3

Identify patterns in the web content and page setup that seem to point to some of the web author’s motivations—i.e. her desires, fears, assumptions about what’s normal, values, etc.  The idea is to try to find patterns that indicate “where she’s coming from.”

Step 4

Record evidence for the patterns you described in step 3.  You can copy/paste lines of text, make brief notes of features you see, etc.  You don’t have to record a lot—just words and phrases that you can talk about in class.
