Head Coach Kara Newman begins her fourth year as the head coach for the Corsairs. Prior to becoming head coach, Newman served as assistant coach to the Corsairs in 2004-2005, graduate assistant coach at Division II Humboldt State University in 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 where she earned her Masters Degree in Kinesiology, and student assistant coach at Division I Northern Arizona University in 1999-2000 where she earned a Bachelors Degree in Education. Newman was recruited by Diviion II schools out of high school such as UC Riverside and Sonoma State, but chose to stay home and play at her local Junior College where she led her team as starting point guard to two State Championships back to back. Newman was named Team MVP, Ventura County Female Athlete of the Year, and California Community College State Player of the Year her sophomore year. She was offered numerous Division I scholarships to schools such as UCSB, New Mexico State and Northern Arizona University. Newman accepted a scholarship to play for Northern Arizona University where she led her team as the starting point guard to the Big Sky Conference Championship, earning most minutes played in conference and Best Defensive Player. Assistant Coach Beth Larson begins her second season as assistant coach for the Corsairs. She moved to Humboldt County last Spring from New Orleans, LA, where she had been pursuing a JD at Tulane University. The Golden, CO native has a bachelor's degree in Business Management from the University of Colorado where she captained eight seasons of intramural basketball teams and won 5 league championships. She attended Mullen High School where she earned 12 varsity letters, won 9 state championships and received all-league, all-state and all-tournament honors.
