Updates to Spring 2020 College Policies Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic
Student success is the primary mission of the college, and we know that the drastic shift in your learning environment, as well as the added burdens many of you face at home resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, has made this semester a very challenging one.
Convert to Pass/No Pass Grade Option
Students may choose to be evaluated on a Pass/No Pass (P/NP) basis rather than on a letter grade (A,B,C,D,F) basis. However, there are potentially long-term negative ramifications tied to P/NP grades and transfer institutions have different policies when it comes to accepting P/NP units. Contact email@example.com for questions.
The district may provide a refund of enrollment fees to any student who withdraws due to emergency conditions, including the current COVID-19 epidemic.
An excused withdrawal (EW) grade will be recorded; but in all cases, a withdrawal due to extraordinary conditions should not affect a student's academic progress, academic probation, or ability to repeat a course. However, you will lose all the work you have put into the semester thus far.
We strongly believe that it is in your best interest to make every effort to finish the semester. If, at the end of the semester, you are unhappy with your grade, you will still be eligible for the EW. If you choose this option, you will have to repeat the course in its entirety to get credit.
Students may request an EW grade up to one year after the term in question. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for questions.
Course Repetition Due to Extenuating Circumstances
COVID-19 has been recognized as an extenuating circumstance. When computing GPA, previous grades and credits will be disregarded, once the course has been repeated. Contact email@example.com for questions.
Please note that these changes are ONLY for the Spring 2020 semester
