After four hours and a dozen combined goals both the men's and women's College of the Redwoods soccer teams won — by convincing margins — Golden Valley Conference home games against visiting Siskiyous, Tuesday afternoon at Community Stadium.

The Redwoods women downed Siskiyous 9-2 while the men coasted to a 3-1 win over the visitors.

Jaycee Morias — a key piece on McKinleyville's North Coast Section champion softball team earlier this year — delivered a hat-trick and then some for Redwoods, leading the way with 4 goals.

Morias also assisted on 3 goals — finishing with one the gaudiest stat lines seen by a player in a Redwoods uniform in quite some time.

Another star from Mack's dominant softball team, Grace Rosebrook, netted two goals in the win.

Kiah Martin assisted on three goals for Redwoods while Amy Reyes and Bailey Balliett each had one goal.

Redwoods (6-5-3, 2-3-3) rises back above .500 with Tuesday's win and can finish with an above .500 conference record with at least two wins in its final three games.

Justice Evans, Devin Schneider and Richmond Miamen each found the back of the net once as the Redwoods men beat Siskiyous 3-1, snapping a 2-game losing skid.

"We controlled possession throughout the game," Redwoods head coach Kyle Van Dyke said. "We dominated from start to finish. We've just continued to battle all season and we've been very strong to start the second wave of conference play."

For the second consecutive match former Fortuna High standout Brian Matias started at goal-keeper for Redwoods in place of Skylar Carroll, who is ineligible for the rest of the season due to a grades issue. Matias gave up a trio goals to Lake Tahoe on Friday — a 2-fold improvement for Redwoods from its first match against the GVC foe — and just one goal on Tuesday.

Redwoods (6-10-1, 3-6-0) is still technically alive in the postseason conversation. Winning its final three games may be a tall order, but being viable for the postseason in early November for a club which went winless a season ago is an accomplishment in itself.

"If we win out, we have a chance," Van Dyke said. "I feel like we have established the building blocks for a successful program going forward. To have improved by so much from where we were a season ago is a big success.
