Twenty-four to Graduate from CR Basic Firefighter Academy

College of the Redwoods in cooperation with the Cal Fire Humboldt-Del Norte Unit will hold its first Basic Firefighter Academy graduation on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at 7 p.m. in the CR Theater on the Eureka main campus. Twenty-four cadets will participate in this class ceremony. This program enables cadets to obtain certifications to be employed with Cal Fire seasonally as well as local fire agencies throughout the state.

            The first BFF class started in October 2019. Cadets will receive certification for the Cal Fire 300 Hour Basic Firefighter, Haz-Mat First Responder Operational, S-190 Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior, L-180 Human Factors in the Wildland Fire Service, S-130 Wildland Firefighter Training, Confined Space Awareness, Firefighter Survival, ICS-100 Introduction to Incident Command System, IS-700 Introduction to National Incident Management System, IS-800 Introduction to National Response Framework, Public Safety First Aid, CPR / AED, and Tactical Casualty Care.

            “We are very proud of the cadets and the hard work they’ve put in to this program. We are confident they will well serve the communities and the departments that they will work for with the training that they have received,” said CR Fire Program Coordinator Kim Price.

            Representing CR at the graduation will be President Dr. Keith Flamer, Basic Fire Academy Director Ron Waters, along with Fire Program Coordinator Kim Price, and Director of Adult Education Margaret Talcott. Representing Cal Fire Humboldt-Del Norte Unit will be Unit Chief Kurt McCray, Training Officer Laura Coleman and Academy Coordinator Josh Gould.
