Are you a contractor hoping to work with CAL FIRE or the USFS in 2020?

Published on 2/13/2020.

Are you interested in securing contracts with Cal Fire/USFS during the fire season? If you are a bulldozer operator, water tender, crew bus driver, vehicle driver or mechanic wanting to secure a CalFire/USFS agreement or contract, you are required to take an annual safety-training course.

College of the Redwoods Workforce and Community Education can help you to fulfill this requirement to complete the mandatory Incident Safety Awareness for Hired Vendors course that you will need to be eligible for contracts for the entire 2020 fire season. The one-day course provides an awareness of incident fire safety to hired vendors who plan to engage in wildland fire suppression and other incident support activities.

Topics include current safety training, relevant policy and procedures, how to recognize and mitigate risk, and maintain safe and effective practices while working under agency supervision on an incident. Upon successful completion of training, participants will receive a course completion card valid for one year from date of issue.

One-day classes are available in Garberville, Fortuna, Eureka, Mad River and Hoopa from February 28 to March 28. For more information, or to register for one of the classes, call 707-476-4500.
