The annual College of the Redwoods Athletics Dinner and Sports Auction has been postponed to a later date due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus. The Dinner and Sports Auction is a benefit for CR student athletes and their sports programs, and also an occasion to honor one of CR’s Hall of Fame athletes.
“Our decision to postpone this year’s sports auction was made out of an abundance of caution due to the COVID-19 virus,” said CR President Keith Flamer. “This decision was not easy. The health of our college and local community is foremost in our minds. We also recognize the economic strain that the COVID-19 response is having our on local businesses. We appreciate having so many wonderful supporters and participants who contribute to our annual sports auction. Postponing the event is the right thing to do for all involved and we pray for the safety of our community and beyond.”
CR Athletic Director Bob Brown added “It is very unfortunate that we need to postpone this year’s auction, as it is such a great event and opportunity for our college staff, coaches and student athletes to see firsthand how well our community, businesses and individuals support us while honoring one of our own.”
CR is focused on continuing to build those relationships through increased efforts of recruitment of local student athletes for next year. The Athletics department is encouraged by the continued increase they are seeing of senior local athletes committing to play at CR next academic year.
CR plans to support local businesses and the community, once competition resumes, with more community volunteering by student athletes, game and season passes, promotions and gear to purchase at the games and, most importantly, creating the same kind of exciting atmosphere their basketball programs did this past season.
