College of the Redwoods Art faculty member Benjamin Funke has been selected by the US Bureau of Land Management - King Range National Conservation Area as the 2019 Artist in Residence. The BLM is in partnership with SCARF (Shelter Cove Arts and Recreation Foundation) for this residency.

This opportunity will place Funke atop the King Range for 31 days, reflecting on the natural landscape and building a new body of artwork. The residency is slated to begin on May 20, and run through late June. During the residency, Funke will be leading two workshops for the general public on 3d imaging, design, scanning and printing at the Shelter Cover Art Gallery in Shelter Cove, CA.  The work created during this residency will be showcased in Funke’s solo exhibition at College of the Redwoods in early 2020.

Additionally, Funke will be leading a group of community members to the Oliver Ranch Foundation Sculpture Park in Geyserville, CA on May 17.  This is a world-class collection of large scale outdoor sculptures, located on a beautiful 100 acre property.  All of the funds raised for this trip will be donated to the Redwood Art Association for special projects including the installation of large sculptures at the Humboldt Botanical Gardens.  You can read more about the organization here. http://oliverranchfoundation.org/about/

Funke will also have his work on display at the RAA Gallery in Eureka, CA, opening May 4, along with artist Jason Marak, in a show entitled “Fictional Space”.
