Master of Professional Accountancy, Amanda Arneson

Born and raised in Humboldt County, Amanda was always very interested in finance, accounting, banking, and saving money. She decided to attend CR immediately following high school in 2015 because it made the most sense to her financially. As it turns out, CR was more than just a way to save money; it was an excellent start to her career. She says, “at the time, I didn't realize the quality and depth of the education I received. CR professors provided a strong foundation for concepts in the area of accounting and economics that I needed throughout my academic career. CR was a strong, cost-effective, one-year start to my higher education.”

She transferred from CR to Humboldt State University in May 2016 with the intent to major in finance and become a financial advisor. While at HSU, she questioned which career she wanted to pursue - finance, banking, or accounting. She thought back to her time at CR and recalled that she really enjoyed her accounting courses at CR, so she consulted with an HSU professor who told her about a 9-month master's program in accounting. The more she learned about the program, the more fitting it seemed for her – a short program, close to home, with excellent job prospects. After graduating from HSU in May 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, focus in Finance, she was accepted into the UC Davis Master of Professional Accountancy program and graduated in June 2019.

She will begin working as an Audit Associate for KPMG in San Jose, CA on September 9, 2019 and will study for the CPA exams in her spare time. She says, “I frequently reflect on my educational experience, and I am grateful for my professors and the support I received at CR, HSU, and UC Davis. They helped me get to where I am today!”
