Published on 4/23/2019.

First-time college students, who are California residents and register for 12 or more units at College of the Redwoods, will receive free tuition for the Spring 2019 semester. CR’s College Access Program will also continue to be funded by the state of California through the 2019-20 academic year.

Graduating high school students, even those who have taken college courses in the past, will qualify as a first-time college students and thus could qualify for the College Access Program.

CR’s President and Superintendent Keith Snow-Flamer said “the College Promise Program is a unique opportunity for our students to receive a free year of education.  Given that their second year may also be supported by other State waivers and/or CR scholarships – College of the Redwoods continues as the least expensive option for someone to gain a top-notch college education.”

“Not only do our local residents in Del Norte and Humboldt County benefit from this program, but they have the opportunity to graduate with degrees that will qualify them for positions in the trades or allow for transfer to 4 year universities and colleges.  You would be hard pressed to find a better investment of your time and effort.” said CR’s Board of Trustees President Carol Matthews.

In order to receive CR’s College Access one must complete CR’s application, fill out the application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the California Dream Act Application (CDAA), and speak with a counselor.  To apply for admission to CR please go to: https://www.redwoods.edu/admissions/getstarted.  To apply for the FAFSA or the CDAA please go to: https://www.redwoods.edu/financialaid/apply.

Although returning students will not qualify for the College Access Program, a large percentage of CR students still qualify for free tuition through the California College Promise Grant (formerly known as the Board of Governor’s Waiver - BOG) which is awarded based on household income.  As a returning student please fill out the FASFA form and speak with a CR financial aid representative.   https://www.redwoods.edu/financialaid/Apply-for-Financial-Aid/Start-Here
