College of the Redwoods Del Norte students to be honored at commencement on Friday

Published on 5/15/2019.

Students from College of the Redwoods Del Norte Education Center will be honored during commencement exercises at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 17th at the Lucky Seven Casino & Hotel Tolowa Event Center, located at 350 North Indian Road in Smith River. Students at the site earned a total of 82 degrees or certificates.

The commencement speaker will be Dr. Keith Flamer, President/Superintendent of College of the Redwoods.

Dr. Flamer and CR Board of Trustees President Bruce Emad will present diplomas to graduates and Mr. John D. Aguiar, who will receive his associate degree, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. CR Del Norte Education Center Director Rory Johnson will deliver the opening remarks and introductions.

Mr. Johnson expresses his admiration for students, saying, “Commencement is the day we all work so hard for; the day that best represents all the hard work of staff and faculty, but more significantly, the hard work of our students. I know I am not alone when I say that seeing the smiles of the graduates and the pride their families show is one of the most satisfying professional experiences I have. Seeing the graduates and their families celebrate makes it easy to do it all over again the next year.”

Dr. Flamer, Professor Ruth Rhodes and Tory Eagles will introduce the graduates.

The Del Norte High School Stage Band will provide musical entertainment during commencement and a reception will follow the graduation ceremony.
