The College of the Redwoods Community Education program will be offering three intensive Health Care Classes this summer: Injections
and IV Therapy
. All classes will take place on the CR Eureka main campus.
The one-day Injections
course covers universal precautions; injection sites; administering a subcutaneous, intramuscular, intradermal injection; and how to calculate drug dosage correctly. The class will be held Saturday, May 20 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The one-day Venipuncture
course covers how to draw blood; the anatomy of the veins; how to successfully draw blood from a patient; the possible complications of drawing blood; capillary puncture in checking blood glucose; and universal precautions. This class will be held Sunday, May 21 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The IV Therapy
course prepares students to start and superimpose intravenous fluids. The content will include types of fluids and devices, rationales for therapies, safety factors, complications, monitoring and preparation of site, patient and equipment. It will also include supervised practice of the technique of venipuncture on mannequins and fellow classmates. Students will successfully start 3 IVs on fellow classmates. The course fulfills the requirements of (and is approved by) the California State Board of Nursing for IV Certification for LVNs. These classes will be held Sundays May 28, June 4, and June 11 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
These trainings are for those who are employed or seeking employment, in a medical office setting and will be working under the supervision of a physician. All of these courses meet the standards and qualifications established by the Division of Allied Health Professionals, Board of Medical Quality Assurance, and State of California.
