College of the Redwoods honored its outstanding employees for 2016-17 at a convocation ceremony on August 24. The Faculty of the Year award was presented to English Professor Sean Thomas. The Associate Faculty of the Year was given to Stuart Altschuler, Addiction Studies Associate Faculty. The Classified Employee of the Year was awarded to Kevin Crotty, Warehouse Delivery Driver and Custodian. The Kathryn G. Smith Leadership Award was presented to Ruthe Rhodes, Professor of English at the CR Del Norte campus.
Sean Thomas has been a Professor of English at CR since 2013. Thomas has contributed work to many initiatives designed to help his students and colleagues, from work on diversity and student equity, participation in the California Acceleration Project, improving tutoring and placement through the Multiple Measures project, and helping faculty with curriculum design. Thomas also worked as Associate Faculty for many years at CR before he was hired as Professor in 2013.
Stuart Altschuler has been an Associate Faculty since 2007. He started working as Associate Faculty in Counseling in 2007, and began teaching Addiction Studies in 2009. In addition to being a passionate and inspiring instructor, Altschuler has participated in many aspects of the college and community, has served on the CR Academic Senate and has represented the interests of CR’s Associate Faculty for many years.
Kevin Crotty has been a Delivery Driver and Custodian at CR since 2014. He has been described by his co-workers as ultra-reliable, positive, dedicated, generous, and always willing to lend a hand.
Ruthe Rhodes is a Professor of English on the Del Norte campus. She has been teaching at CR since 2005. Rhodes was given the Kathryn G. Smith Leadership Award for her outstanding student-centered leadership and commitment to collaboration while facilitating CR’s Basic Skills project. The Kathryn G. Smith Leadership Award recognizes an individual employee or a group of employees who embody both the letter and spirit of leadership excellence within the CR community.
