Empowering Classified Staff to Understand and Embrace the Critical Role They Play to Support Student Success

Guest speaker Thomas Brown will be here to speak on Empowering Classified Staff to Understand and Embrace the Critical Role They Play to Support Student Success from 10:45 a.m. to Noon (room TBD).  RSVP required so please call or email Wendy Bates (476-4192 or wendy-bates@redwoods.edu).

Most retention research focuses on the relationships students have with instructional faculty and student affairs professionals. However, students interact with classified staff (Education Support Professionals) at every juncture, as they move in, move through, and move on from college.  For example, a study by the Association of Institutional Research finds that staff members significantly influence students’ decisions to stay or drop out of college.

Professional development for classified staff frequently focuses on mastering technical, job-related skills.  This session will support participants to transform their thinking so as to recognize and embrace the powerful role they play to increase student success—every day, every week, throughout the year.  This presentation will identify and strengthen the interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, attitudes and behaviors that can produce increased effectiveness and satisfaction for students and for classified staff themselves.
