College of the Redwoods and Humboldt State University will co-host The North Coast Homelessness & Housing Insecurity Community Summit on April 25, 2018. The event will be held from 10 am – 3:30 pm in the College of the Redwoods Theater located on CR’s main campus, 7351 Tompkins Hill Road.
Members of our homeless population, service providers, local businesses, police/fire/medical providers, students, and residents of Del Norte and Humboldt Counties are frustrated with unresolved and seemingly growing homelessness issues.
Our two north coast collegiate institutions have come together to provide community leaders and others affected with an opportunity to better understand these issues and collectively and more effectively address the impact of homelessness in our region. Their goal is to reboot our community’s conversation and identify next steps.
The North Coast Homelessness & Housing Insecurity Summit seeks to create a shared understanding of the scope of our homeless situation and the local initiatives underway, to find the root causes and contributing factors of homelessness for various populations, to build resilience and community focus to combat homelessness, and to expand community empathy and awareness about the homeless daily life experience.
The Summit will also explore opportunities to more effectively support, develop and implement shared solutions on this critical community issue. This event is not open to the public, but students, faculty and community members have been invited to participate.
