CR Receives Rural Technology Grant

Great news! CR has been awarded a $90,000 grant by the Chancellor’s Office. CR was one of many rural community colleges that applied for funds to enhance their technical infrastructure and services to students. CR will use the funds to provide students with a single username and password for all of their accounts (e.g., Datatel, e-mail, Canvas), to enhance accessibility of CR’s website, and to comply with ADA regulations.

Tracking Degree & Certificate Completions

One feature of the new Student Centered Funding Formula was to fund colleges for each student completion. For example, if a student received two degrees and a certificate, a college would receive funding for all three awards. Tracking multiple awards per student appears to be quickly becoming a thing of the past. The funding formula is changing to fund colleges for only each student who receives a certificate or degree -- not for each award. This results in less funding for colleges.

The ACCJC is moving in the same direction. Commissioners stated at a webinar last week that, despite the instructions in the Annual Report to report the number of degrees and certificates awarded, colleges should report the unduplicated headcount of how many students received a degree or certificate.

Chancellor’s Office Updates

  • The Chancellor’s Office is merging two major divisions. The Student Services Unit and the Academic Affairs/Instruction Unit are merging into the Educational Services and Support Unit. Chancellor Ortiz stated that the merger is to promote connectivity among key efforts that equally advance student success and achievement. Newly hired Marty Alvarado will lead the area as the Executive Vice Chancellor for Educational Services.
  • The Chancellor’s Office will issue a formal RFP soliciting proposal for a replacement of the Chancellor’s Office Curriculum Inventory (COCI) in September 2019. The replacement would also provide a school-based curriculum management solution (e.g., eLumen).
