CR’s College Access Program!
Spread the word about CR’s College Access Program! Last year, students started receiving one year tuition-free. The program was recently extended to a second year. This means that a qualifying student can complete a degree in two years at CR without paying any tuition fees. Here’s how someone can qualify:
- Be a first-time college student, or a high school graduate who took CR classes while in high school
- Complete the online application to CR and fill out the FAFSA or Dream Act application
- Maintain enrollment in 12 or more units (full-time)
- Be a California resident or covered by AB 540
- Currently not receiving the California College Promise Grant (formerly BOG waiver)
Many California Community Colleges have similar programs, but they are locally defined by each college. The name of the program varies, although many colleges include “Promise” in the title. Some programs give benefits other than free tuition, and the way to qualify into the program also varies across institutions.
Food Pantry Access
Students at the Eureka Campus have benefited from a food pantry for the past few years. Under the direction of Kintay Johnson, his team has tracked a growing number of students accessing food and other resources. And their efforts are expanding. Food pantries have recently opened at the Del Norte Campus and Klamath Trinity Instructional Site. I am grateful to CR’s Associated Students for providing food to students in need throughout the District.
Program Review Committee Update
Most of us are breathing a sigh of relief now that program review is behind us. Not so for the Program Review Committee. Their work is just beginning. They didn’t complain when we pushed back the deadline because of the power outages, and they are prepared to deal with their added responsibility of ranking resource requests. Thank your program review committee representatives. They have a great deal of work ahead under tight deadlines, but I have no doubt that they’ll do a great job.
