Prepare to take a high school equivalency test and earn a California High School Equivalency Certificate. Two test options are available: the GED and HiSET. Both tests are authorized by the California Department of Education. Adult Education classes are free; however, a fee is charged to take the GED and HiSET tests.

Prior to registering to take the GED test, students must create a profile at www.GED.com. Students may schedule and pay for their test online while creating their profile, or call 707 476-4500.

To earn a California High School Equivalency Certificate, students must successfully pass all subtests of the GED or HiSET tests in the same language, and the tests cannot be mixed and matched.
