This combined 80 hour billing and coding course offers the skills needed to solve insurance billing problems, how to manually file claims (using CPT and ICD-10 manual), complete common insurance forms, trace delinquent claims, appeal denied claims and use generic forms to streamline billing procedures. This course covers the following areas: CPT (Introduction, Guidelines, Evaluation and Management), specialty fields (such as surgery, radiology and laboratory), ICD-10 (Introduction and Guidelines) and basic processes for medical insurance and third party reimbursements. Students will learn how to find the service and codes using manuals: CPT, ICD-10 and HCPCS. After obtaining the practical work experience (6 months - 2 years), students who complete this course could be qualified to sit for the American Academy of Professional Coders - Certified Professional Coder Exam, American Health Information Association Certified Coding Associate exam or other national certification exams.

Learn to work with basic analytical tools in Microsoft Excel 2013 to make your worksheets work more efficiently. Get introduced to pivot table techniques to get better ideas on what your business data is telling you.  Learn more about conditional formatting, advance filtering, and how to connect your data in one spreadsheet to another.  We will cover basic functions and formula building along with more advanced IF formulas, horizontal and vertical look-up applications as well.  Practice printing your spreadsheet and learn tips about professional formatting.  This course is completely hands on in Community Education’s computer lab.

Masters Notary Academy shall present the approved Notary Public course for the State of California. We shall provide the necessary materials required for the class including: an extensive workbook, State paperwork, code book and handouts necessary for the course. All materials will be distributed in class. Our course is structured to accommodate the newly commissioned or re-commissioning notary requiring the mandatory 6 hours of instruction required by the state exam. California’s real estate industry needs notaries who would like to become Loan Document Signing Specialists. In this class, your instructor will present information on the duties and responsibilities of the Notary Public entering the loan industry as a Loan Document Specialist. The instructor will cover various documents involved in the loan package, the role of the loan officer and Title and Escrow. The instructor will then present how to manage the actual appointment with the client and re-cap on the Notary position. Prerequisite: Must have or be in the process of obtaining a California State Notary Public Commission. You need to at least have taken the Notary class.

This 8-week course studies areas of full-charge bookkeeping—the accounting cycle steps, payroll, asset documentation, along with the essential accompanying organizational and regulatory reports.  Working from both hand calculations and QuickBooks, students will gain skills with payroll processes.   

Students will learn:

  • Organize, build, and manage items in QuickBooks.
  • Build a simple depreciation schedule and document capital asset purchases.
  • Handle monthly/quarterly and year-end tax deposits and filings.
  • Support the building and management of good customer and supplier relationships.
