Truck Driving: Getting on the Road to Your Future . . .
College of the Redwoods Truck Driver Training Program teaches background information, break-in skills, and offers behind-the-wheel training preparation for most trucking jobs. This intensive six-week course has 45 hours of lecture and 45 hours of "behind-the-wheel" instruction. Each student receives 45 additional hours of observation time in the truck.
Subjects include:
- Gauges and instruments
- Pre-trip inspection and safety
- Proper shifting techniques
- Brake systems and adjustments
- Paperwork
- How to seek employment
Upon completion of the course, the instructor will schedule the student's DMV road test. If students pass the road test, they will receive their Class-A license.
Getting Started:
To begin College of the Redwoods' Truck Driver Training Program, students must attend an informational meeting. This is an opportunity to receive an application and information packet about the program. Instructors will give a summary of what to expect from the program. Potential students will also be able to hear about financing plans and possible funding resources for students who are eligible.
Informational Meetings are held from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at 525 D St. Eureka, CA
Eligibility:
Eligibility will be discussed further in the mandatory informational meeting. It is important to speak with the instructor at the informational meeting before completing any of the tasks below. To attend the College of the Redwoods' Truck Driving Program, a student must be at least 18 years of age and complete or provide the following:
- Pass a Basic Skills Test (Reading, Writing and Math)
- Copy of current license
- Current DMV License Record Print-out (10 Year Report)
- CDOT Medical Exam
- DOT Drug Screen
- California Class A Learner's Permit
- Funding confirmed - If you are being sponsored, a sponsorship letter from the sponsoring agency will be required by the entrance requirements deadline

Next Informational Meetings: Tuesdays & Thursdays - February 26th, 28th or March 5th 5:30pm - 7:30pm 525 D St. Eureka CA - Only need to attend one meeting.
Mandatory Pre-Class Meetings: Students must attend all pre-class meetings announced at Informational Meetings.

Dates: March 25 - May 3, 2019 - This is an intensive six-week course!
Classroom:
Days: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays
Time: 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Driving:
Behind-the-wheel will be 45 hours and obeservation will be 45 hours for a total of 90 hours in the truck. Days and times will be arranged with the instructors in the mornings, afternoon, and/or weekends.
Fee: $4,295 (Additional fees may be paid by the student to DMV and for medical screen.)
