I came to College of the Redwoods with a doctorate in forest science from Michigan Technological University. As a forestry student, I learned about coast redwood trees - the tallest trees in the world - and when the opportunity to teach at CR popped up, I knew there would be no better place to teach forestry.
I conduct class as a conversation, with give-and-take between students and instructor. My favorite teaching moments are the "aha" moments -when a student's face lights up and I get to see the excitement they feel after fully understanding a concept. I hope to show students what it takes to be a Natural Resource Professional in the current workforce. I help prepare them for positions with CalFIRE, the US Forest Service, and the National Park Service, or private forestry positions around the state and country.
