About Us

EOPS
Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) is a state-funded program designed to provide financial assistance, support and encouragement for eligible income disadvantaged students.

CARE
Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE) is a supplemental program to EOPS that is designed to provide the extra help a single parent may need to achieve his or her academic and career goals, and end their dependency on public assistance.

NEXT UP

NextUp provides community college students like you with resources that make a difference. The program offers eligible current and former foster youth support and services that could include help with books and supplies, transportation, tutoring, food and additional financial aid.

EOPS

Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) is a state-funded program designed to provide financial assistance, support and encouragement for eligible income disadvantaged students.

How do I qualify for EOPS?

  • Be admitted to CR as a California resident or meet California Dream Act requirements.
  • Be eligible to receive financial aid in the form of a California Promise Grant and meet income limits.
  • Be enrolled full-time (12 or more units) or receive a waiver.
  • Have fewer than 70 degree-applicable units completed.
  • Be educationally disadvantaged as defined by EOPS regulations.

EOPS Mission

  • To increase the number and percentage of students enrolled in community colleges who are affected by language, social, and economic disadvantages, consistent with state and local matriculation policies.
  • To increase the number and percentage of EOPS students who successfully complete their chosen educational objectives.
  • To increase the number and percentage of EOPS students who are successfully placed into career employment.
  • To increase the number and percentage of EOPS students who transfer to four year institutions following completion of the related educational programs at community colleges.
  • To strive to assist community colleges to meet student and employee affirmative action objectives.
  • To improve the delivery of programs and services to the disadvantaged.

What are the benefits of CARE?

Based on available funding:

CARE is a supplemental program to EOPS that is designed to provide the extra help a single parent may need to achieve his or her academic and career goals, and end their dependency on public assistance.
Every CARE student is an EOPS student; therefore the student must meet both EOPS and CARE program eligibility requirements.

How do I qualify for CARE?

  1. Meet the eligibility requirements for EOPS
  2. Be at least 18 years of age
  3. Be designated as a single-parent/single-head of household
  4. Be currently receiving CalWORKs /TANF/Tribal TANF cash aid for yourself and/or your child/children.
  5. Have at least one dependent child under the age of 18.
  6. Be enrolled full-time upon admission into the program or receive a waiver for less than full-time enrollment.

EOPS Tutoring: Above and Beyond!

EOPS strives to provide above and beyond tutoring to students! While all CR students can schedule a 1-hour long appointment up to 3 times a week, EOPS students can also book longer and more frequent appointments. Additionally, the Tutoring Center has Special Programs tutors dedicated to students in the Special Programs. The Special Programs tutors are highlighted in blue on the schedule.

If a CR tutor/subject is not available, try NetTutor!
NetTutor is a private, national tutoring company.

NetTutor Q&A

NetTutor is an online tutoring resource that allows students to chat with a tutor using text, audio, or video. Students may also submit a question or paper and get feedback emailed to them. Tutoring is available in most subjects.

 

All tutors have at least a Bachelor's Degree in their subject and experience working in education.

Tutoring in Math and English is available 24 hours a day, most other subjects also have wide availability. You can find a complete tutoring schedule by subject in the EOPS Canvas site. 

 

EOPS students can access STAR-CA by logging into the EOPS Canvas site and clicking on the NetTutor tab.

Other Resources

In addition to help with your classes EOPS tutors can help you with note taking, time management, test taking, and citations. Click the links below to download resources or come in to the tutoring center and brush up with a tutor.

You or someone you know is committed to the goal of achieving a college education, and we’re committed to helping make that dream a reality. There is assistance available for current and former foster youth who want to attend a California community college; all you have to do is get started, and we’ll help you every step of the way.  You don’t have to walk the path of higher education alone. NextUp offers access to services and resources that support foster youth while attending a California community college. From tuition and books to living expenses and school supplies, the cost of college can be intimidating. That’s where NextUp comes in. You or a foster youth you know may qualify for a variety of financial aid options while attending a California community college.

How to qualify for NEXT UP services:
Be enrolled at College of the Redwoods
You were in Foster Care on or after your 13th birthday - Documentation may be required
You are 26 or younger at the start of the current academic year. For Fall 2023 and Spring 2024, the date is July 1st 1997.

Any student eligible for Next Up is automatically eligible for EOPS services as well!
