LVN/Paramedic to RN Career Mobility

LVN/Paramedic to RN Career Mobility Associate Degree Program: The LVN to RN Career Mobility ADN program is a 3-semester program to assist the Licensed Vocational Nurse or Paramedic in becoming a Registered Nurse. Program content includes nursing courses and additional coursework in physiology, chemistry, microbiology, communication skills, social and behavioral sciences, and Associate of Science degree requirements.

LVN to RN 30 Unit Option : The LVN to RN 30 Unit Option program is a 3-semester program to assist the Licensed Vocational Nurse in becoming a Registered Nurse. This option is legal only in the state of California, only, with no reciprocity in other states within the U.S. Program content includes mental health and psychiatric nursing, advanced medical-surgical nursing, geriatric nursing, principles and practices of IV therapy, management of patient care and leadership skills, and bioethics.

CLINICAL REQUIREMENT UPDATE, BOTH OPTIONS: A 10-panel urine drug screen is required 30 days before the beginning of your first clinical rotations and every Fall following a summer break. Positive results mean you cannot attend clinical per clinical agency contract. Inability to attend clinical will result in being dismissed from the course.

Important Notice!!

The required Science prerequisites have changed. BIO 8 no longer substitutes for BIO 6. You must take BIO 2, 6 and 7 to apply to the LVN/Paramedic - RN program.  You need to have all three courses completed to apply to the program. However, for licensed LVNs whose LVN curriculum required BIO 8 (a CR-only course) BIO 8 will substitute for BIO 1, which is a prerequisite for BIO 2, 6 & 7. In other words, LVN licensure + BIO 8 = BIO 1.

Please note the following:

  • LVNs who possess a valid California LVN license and Paramedics who possess national registration are eligible to participate in the program. It is highly recommended that the applicant complete one full year’s experience as an LVN or a Paramedic prior to applying for the Career Mobility Program.
  • Limited space is available each year.
  • Following the application period, all qualified applications will be ranked for admission by lottery
  • LVN to RN 30-Unit Option applicants must meet with the Director of Nursing of Health Occupations prior to the application period to obtain an application.
