Definitions:

Major Violation:

major violations include, but are not limited to:
  • Assault / Harassment
  • An incident involving alcohol, drugs, drug paraphernalia, possessing alcohol bottles, or being under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • An incident involving any tampering or covering of fire safety equipment.
  • Smoking inside or too close to the building.
Minor Violation:
A minor violation includes, but is not limited to:
  • Failure to comply with a reasonable staff request.
  • Being loud after quiet hours.
Incident Reports:

Whenever a policy violation occurs, a staff member will complete an incident report that describes the details of the incident. The Director of Residence Life or his/her designee will review the incident report and initiate the judicial process.

Consequences of Minor Violations:

When a minor violation occurs, a staff member will complete an incident report and submit the report to the Director of Residence Life or his/her designee. The Director or his/her designee will either send a warning letter or a letter to request a meeting with the person who committed the violation. Often on the first offence the student will receive a written or verbal warning. If another violation occurs, the Director of Residence Life or his/her designee will meet with the student and may assign sanctions. A sanction may be a community service project. Should a student continue to violate the policies, the student may be placed on probation or removed from the halls.

Consequences for Major Violations:

When a major violation occurs, a staff member will complete an incident report and submit the report to the Director of Residence Life or his/her designee. Should the student be found in violation, then the Director or his/her designee will assign appropriate sanctions. In the case of a drug or alcohol violation, students will be removed and/or receive community service which might include a drug and alcohol education class, and if the student is under 21 years of age, a letter may be sent to the student's parents or guardians. The student will also be placed on residence hall probation.

For second major violators, or multiple minor violators, students meet with the Director of Residence Life and may be removed or placed on probation and assigned community service hours.

Should the student become involved in multiple violations, the student shall be given 24 hours to move out of the residence halls. Any student removed from housing will still be held responsible for all housing payments for the remainder of the student's contract term.

Serious Major Violation:

Any behavior that is considered dangerous to any person in the community can result in immediate removal from the residence halls.

Restricted Guests:

When a guest of a resident commits a major violation, or multiple minor violations, they are asked to leave the premises immediately, and they are restricted from returning to the residence halls.
