Calvin Johnson II

Calvin Johnson II. aka Coach C.J. enters his first year as an Assistant Coach at College of the Redwoods. 

Calvin played collegiately at Simpson University in Redding, California from 2004-2008.

In Calvin's four seasons as a Red Hawk, he contributed to winning a 2005-Regional Championship; 2 Team Awards, 2006-Defensive Player of The Year; 2008-Most Inspirational. During that span Calvin also earned a B.A. in Music; and postgraduate he obtained a M.S. in Education-Special Education.

Calvin recently relocated to the Humboldt community, and is elated to be joining College of the Redwoods staff. Calvin brings with him an array of knowledge; including but not limited to, supplemental training-player development skills, strategic philosophy/experience, and passion to contribute to the Corsairs coaching staff. Calvin has participated in highly competitive exposure and recruiting events across the country; learning, networking, and establishing rapport with some of the best influential female basketball advocates and collegiate coaches across the nation. Calvin's driving impetus is striving to educate, develop, mentor, and encourage growth on and off the court; to be a catalyst for improvement and inspire students-athletes to maximize their full potential.

Collegiate Experience; Calvin spent one season 21-22 with Lincoln University Men's Basketball Team, in Oakland, CA as their Logistic Coordinator/Assistant, under the direction of Hall of Famer, and Head Coach; Gary Payton.

HS/MS Experience; This past season 22-23 Calvin spent one season at University Preparatory, girls' basketball as a junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant. Prior to this, Calvin spent several years (2015-2023) as a high school/middle school coach: served as an assistant at Willows High School, Anderson High School, and a head coach at Mountain View Middle School. 

Calvin is a native of Oakland, CA, prior to relocating to Humboldt County, he resided in Redding, CA which he calls home. Calvin and his lovely wife Erin have been married since 2007, together they have 5 children; 4 girls and 1 son.
