College of the Redwoods is offering a Winter Singing: Songs from Around the World class at the Garberville Instructional Site, located at 286 Sprowl Creek Road in Garberville. The class will be held on Tuesdays, December 4 through 18, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Instructor Marie Schafer Stretch (Ms. Marie) has been a music educator in Southern Humboldt for 15 years and has studied composition, ethnomusicology and music for children. She plays a variety of instruments and styles of music. This class will explore songs from around the world that celebrate the winter season. From chants and rounds to 4-part songs, this class will offer trained and untrained singers alike a chance to get together and be part of an acapella singing group.
Traditional music from various cultures will be presented along with a few holiday favorites. Materials and songbooks will be available for students to keep. The ability to read music is not required. For more information or to register please call 707-476-4503.
