FRANK BORBA

Head Coach, Fourth Season

Borba was previously the wide receivers coach at Delta College in Stockton, CA. In his four years at Delta, Borba sent 14 WR's on to the four-year level, four of which signed to Division-I schools.

Coach Borba graduated from Escalon High School in 1997, helping the Cougars to the 1996 Div. IV state football title. He then attended Delta College, where he was the national leader in completions and was named to the 1999 Honorable Mention All-American teams. After leaving Delta, Frank continued his education and playing career at Menlo College. While at Menlo, he was named to the all-west region team, and first team preseason all-American teams. He finished fourth in the nation for passing efficiency in 2003 and is the second leading passer in school history. After his collegiate career Frank played professionally for five years in the AF2, National Indoor Football League, and the United Indoor Football League.

Previously Coach Borba had coached high school for five years, including three years as the QB coach/Offensive Coordinator for Ripon Christian High School, and two years for the Central Catholic Raiders in Modesto. He holds a BA in Sports Management from Menlo College, and a Masters of Arts in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University, Irvine. He is married to his wife Aubrey, and has three children, Frank IV, Boston, and Jolie.

Defensive Coordinator  First Season
Linebacker Coach, Sixth Season

Coach Avila is entering his sixth season at College of the Redwoods and will be the Defensive Coordinator. Coach Avila graduated from El Camino High School in Oceanside in 2008, where he played football and competed in the shot put and discus in track and field. His senior year, Avila was an All-Avocado League selection as a defensive lineman and helped his team to a league title. Coach Avila then spent two seasons at Shasta College in 2008-09 as a linebacker, helping the Knights to a bowl game, and in 2011, returned home to El Camino High School where he spent the past two seasons as a defensive line coach.

BRIAN CHARITY

Assistant Head Coach, Fifth Season
Offensive Line Coach/Strength and Conditioning Coordinator

Coach Charity, who’s in his fourth season at CR as Offensive Line Coach and Strength and Conditioning Coordinator, graduated from Scripps Ranch High School in San Diego in 1998, where he played football (defensive line) and competed in track and field (shot put and discus). In track and field, he was selected All-San Diego Section his senior year, and after high school, was an All-Southern Conference offensive lineman at Grossmont Community College in San Diego, helping his team to the 2000 State Championship game. Coach Charity finished his playing career at Norfolk State University in Virginia in 2004, and graduated from Humboldt State in 2005 with a BA in Kinesiology.

He became the assistant strength and conditioning coach for HSU in 2005 and remained for three seasons before joining the Denver Broncos in 2009 to be an intern/strength and conditioning coach. He then returned to Humboldt County to become the head strength and conditioning coach for the HSU men’s basketball and women’s volleyball teams in 2010 and 2011, and was the assistant strength and conditioning coach at Washington State University for two seasons in 2012 and ’13.


SPENCER FORD

Offensive Coordinator, Second Season

Coach Ford, who’s in his fourth season at CR in 2017, third as RB coach. He graduated from Fortuna High School in 2008 and played offensive line for the Huskies for two seasons.

In his first season as RB coach, Ford coached All-Pacific-7 conference back RaQuanne Dickens. Under the tutelage of Ford, Dickens set the CR single season touchdown record in 2015.  The streak of All Pacific-7 running backs continued in 2016 with Handsome Smith.

 

 

 

 

 

DYLAN SWARTZ

Quarterbacks/Video Coordinator   Fourth Season

Coach Swartz is from Modesto, California where he attended Central Catholic High School. At Central Catholic is where he met and was coached by Head Coach Frank Borba. After high school he attended Butte College where he helped lead the Road Runners to a 19-3 record in his two seasons there. From Butte, Swartz received multiple scholarship offers but ultimately decided to attend the University of Central Oklahoma where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Mass Communications with a minor in Professional Media. 

Upon graduating from Central Oklahoma; Coach Borba offered him a position with the CR staff where he was the Quarterback Coach and Video Coordinator for the 2015 season. The offensive staff including himself helped the Corsair's offense finish with the number one offense in conference play, along with getting quarterback Chasen Gempeler a scholarship to Morningside University. This fall will be Coach Swartz third year with the CR program. 

 

Andrew Aiello

Special Teams Coordinator, Third Season

Coach Aiello joins the Corsair football staff after coaching for more than 7 years at his alma mater, El Camino High School in Oceanside, California.  Aiello was a running back and linebacker for El Camino, was a 2 year all league performer, as well as making the All-Academic team.  Aiello was also a baseball standout playing all 4 years of Varsity, earning All-League Honors 3 years, and the All-Academic team.  Aiello was captain for the football team, and a 3 year captain for the baseball team.  Aiello went on to Palomar Junior College where he earned his AA in Social Sciences and later graduated with a BA in Liberal Studies from CSUSM in 2012.

Coach Aiello has coached multiple positions back home from the Defensive Line, Running backs/ Tight Ends, as well as being a Special Teams Coordinator for 2 different schools.  Aiello has coached multiple players that have gone on to get scholarships from the Div. 1 level through NAIA, along with many All-League Performers.  Coach Aiello is the younger brother of an All-State and BIG 10 standout, Ryan Aiello, who played at the University of Wisconsin.

Coach Aiello brings with him a wealthy knowledge of Defense, with emphasis on the Defensive Line and Pass Rush, as well as Special Teams, who Coach Aiello worked with Darren Bennett, former punter for the San Diego Chargers.  Coach Aiello provides depth with the coaching staff here, in regards to work ethic, passion, and positive player relationships.
