CR Men's Soccer Coaching Staff
Head Men's Soccer Coach
College of the Redwoods was looking for an energetic and enthusiastic head coach to guide the men’s soccer program starting 2016. The Corsairs found what they were looking for in Humboldt native Pedro Cortes-Garcia, who graduated Fortuna High School in 2011. Cortes-Garcia was named the Humboldt-Del Norte Conference’s Most Valuable Player in both boy’s soccer and tennis over his high school career, and following his time with the Huskies, joined the local semi-professional North Coast Tsunami for a season and also stayed on at Fortuna as an assistant coach. He was an assistant for the Fortuna boy’s varsity team from 2011-2015 and also the head coach of the junior varsity team for three seasons.
On the field, the coach also has an identity for the way he wants his team to play on the offensive. “As a coach I always like to attack,” he said. “I’m a huge fan of attacking, keeping possession and not making life hard, making it easy.” Coach Cortes earned his Bachelor's of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Teaching/Coaching from Humboldt State University.
At College of the Redwoods we believe that the
success of our student-athletes is a priority objective. In order for the
program to be successful, we strive to encourage our student-athletes to be
successful first and then the program. Educating and teaching are powerful
tools that the coaching staff utilizes throughout the experience of each
individual. Being part of the soccer program goes beyond just playing soccer.
We take into consideration the idea that we are representing an institution,
family, and the community by having professional behavior and by accomplishing
goals in both academics and athletics. We strive to teach the importance of
ethics and values, which are essential to a student-athletes future.
