Jain Tuey - Head Coach

Jain Tuey is entering her 2nd year as head coach for College of the Redwoods. Before becoming head coach at CR, Coach Tuey was Head Assistant coach for Doug Oliviera for 2 years at CR. 

Previous to coaching Jain played 2 years at Humboldt State- named captain her senior year and also revived the Fighting Jack award from her coaches and teammates, for her consistent hard work and fight to never give up. She was also recognized for being the teammate who inspired her team to always work harder and never quit. 

Before Humboldt State she transferred from College of the Redwoods where she played 1 year. She was captain of her team and led her team to second place in conference and the 2nd round in state playoffs. She was awarded GVC all-conference team and MVP by her team. She was also top ten in state for scoring. During her year at CR her team of six players broke many team records, such as, first team to make playoffs in 20 plus years, and best conference record in 10 years.

Previous to CR, Jain played 1 year at Shasta College where she was named freshman captain of her team and started every game her freshman year. Her team was co-champions for conference and also made it to the second round of state playoffs. That year Jain was awarded GVC all-freshman team and Honorable mention for GVC all-conference team. 

In the 2 years between playing for Shasta and CR Jain was the assistant coach for Fortuna high freshman girls team where they went undefeated her first year. 

Jain Tuey received her bachelors in Kinesiology with an emphasis in teaching and coaching and plans to get her masters in the future.

 

 

Darren Turpin Jr. - Head Assistant Coach

Darren is entering his second year as the Head Assistant Coach for College of the Redwoods. Coach Turpin is also in his first year as the Sports Information Director for Redwoods.

Originally from Compton, Ca, Darren was a 2008 graduate of Dominguez High School, where he was a three-year varsity player and a two-year starter as a forward. Darren helped the Dons attain the 2004 CIF-SS Div.1 Championship, 2008 CIF- SS Div. 1 Championship, 2008 CIF-Southern Regional Championship, and 2008 CIF Div. 1 State Runner-up. Darren individually received 2nd Team All-Conference in 2007. He also played High School AAU Basketball for Branch West Academy and the I-Can All-Stars.

Darren then attended Navarro College in Corsicana, TX, from 2009-2011, where he was apart the 2010 NJCAA Final Four team. He received the Junkyard Dawg Award in 2011. Graduating from Navarro College with his AA Degree in General Studies, he continued his collegiate basketball career at Humboldt State University from 2011-2013. As a Lumberjack he was a part history, winning the University's first CCAA Tournament Championship in 2012 and appeared in the 2012 NCAA Div. 2 National Tournament. Darren receive the 2013 Axe Man of the Year Award.

Before joining the College of the Redwoods, Coach Turpin worked as a Head Coach for Boys Basketball at Arcata High School from 2013-2017. He was the Frosh Boys Head Coach for 2 years and Junior Varsity Boys Head Coach for 2 years. Along with coaching high school Darren coached AAU for the Humboldt Wild and the Eureka Beast.

Darren received his B.A. in Business Administration with an emphasis in Management in 2017 from Humboldt State University. Darren currently resides in Arcata, Ca.
