EOPS Students Recognized with $1500 Scholarship

Published on 4/24/2017.

Four of our EOPS students were awarded $1,500 each in scholarships from the Soroptimist International Clubs of Eureka and Humboldt Bay.  Soroptimist, if you don't know, is a global women’s organization whose members work to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.

The scholarships awarded were the Live Your Dream award (1) and the Women’s Re-entry award (3). The recipient of the Live Your Dream Award is Jennifer Askay. Jennifer will receive her Liberal Arts in Behavioral and Social Science. She will be transferring to HSU for the Fall 2017 semester and plans to major in Kinesiology with a career focus in Occupational Therapy.

The first recipient of the Women’s Re-entry award is Courtney Harris. Courtney will be receiving her Liberal Arts in Science Exploration with a focus in Agriculture. She intends to get a job in her field of study while she attends HSU and pursues a B.S. in Botany. With her education she plans to work with local organizations to create and facilitate more hands-on, outdoor science programs geared towards stimulating the minds of our next generation’s scientists.

The second recipient is Fay Prudhomme. Fay will receive her Liberal Arts in Behavioral and Social Science and will be transferring to HSU in the Spring of 2018. She will pursue a degree in Psychology and then work in Behavior and Counseling Psychology.

The third recipient is Melanie Wrate. Melanie received her Liberal Arts in Science Exploration and will begin the College of the Redwoods Nursing Program in the Fall of 2017. After completing the Nursing Program here she will pursue her BSN.

Congratulations to these women for their achievement.
