Our Board is placing a strong emphasis on governance and board professional development can play a greater role in ensuring the success of all students. An important part of continuing to improve our District will be the leadership provided by our Board of Trustees.
I had the opportunity to attend the 2018 Effective Trusteeship and Board Chair Workshop Conference with Trustees Mathews, Emad, Kelley, Deister, and Biggin on January 26-28. We had a chance to interact with other college trustees and other Presidents and Superintendents and engage in in-depth discussions on several important topics including: an introduction in to the Brown Act, the roles and responsibilities of trustees, trustee ethics, effective trusteeship, the board's role in fiscal policy, enrollment management, guided pathways, effective trustee/CEO relations, and the Board's role in labor negotiations.
Attending the conference with other CEOs and trustees from around the State makes me appreciate how hard our trustees have been working over the past few years to make CR great institution for students and employees.
