Christine Peters, a student at the Del Norte campus and participant in the CalWORKs program, was awarded the Live Your Dream scholarship from Soroptimist International of Crescent City. This award is given to women who are single mothers who have overcome significant hurdles to pursue higher education. 

Christine was also selected as a California Community College CalWORKs Association Portraits of Student Success Scholarship award winner. As part of this award, she attend the CCC CalWORKS Association Annual Training Institute in Redding April 17-19 and participated in a student panel alongside other scholarship recipients to share their stories of resilience.  

I've attached is a copy of her publically available statement for the CalWORKs award. Reading Christine's statement reminds me of a quote from Deepak Chopra "There is just no getting around that turning bad things into good things is up to you."
