OneREG

Inspired by the Bob Marley song

Published on 3/21/2016.

A press release was disseminated to local news agencies today announcing the launch of our new OneREG registration process that will allow students to register for an entire academic year.  This innovative process represents our institutional commitment to provide greater support to our students.  OneREG, and many of our other new enrollment management initiatives, also reflects our institutional courage to take calculated risks and challenge the status quo so CR doesn’t stagnate or become competitively irrelevant.

Oren Harari, a professor at the University of San Francisco, wrote an article sharing 18 leadership lessons for Colin Powell. One lesson is particularly relevant, I think, to OneREG: “Endeavors succeed or fail because of the people involved.” We would not be a position to offer OneREG except for the outstanding support from Tiffany Schmitcke (Manager of Admissions and Records), Shereen Cockrum (Scheduling Specialist), Joe Hayes (Institutional Research Intern), Sheila Hall (Counseling and Advising), and the Deans Marla Gleave, Joe Hash, Erin Wall, and Dave Bazard, and Faculty.

The new process moves us forward on meeting several of our strategic plan, education master plan and annual plan goals:

Strategic Plan Goal 1.1: Match student readiness with educational pathways.

Strategic Plan Goal 1.3: Students will be able to complete their desired educational goals.

Strategic Plan Goal 3.2: Improve college operational efficiencies.

Strategic Plan Goal 4.4: Improve efficiency through technology.

Education Master Plan Goal 1: Ensure Student Success

Annual Plan Goal 1.1: Provide structured academic pathways

We should be proud of our ability to move forward resolutely in the face of ambiguity. Will everything we try to do generate the desired results?  I don’t know. However, as the Chief Executive Officer, I am not afraid to push the limits and take calculated risks, and neither should we collectively.
