The Board took action in closed session to approve the settlement of litigation in the Humboldt County Superior Court, Case Number CV 2000666, initiated by California School Employees Association and its Chapter 509. In an effort to establish trust and collegiality, and with neither side conceding on the merits and no ruling from the Court, the Board has agreed to pay to CSEA a sum of $25,000 and further agreed that future classified layoffs shall be conducted in open session. In exchange, CSEA agreed to bear its fees and costs, and to withdraw the action with prejudice.

Voting in favor of the agreement were Trustees Mathews, Coppini, Mullery, Robertson, Biggin, and Kelley. Voting against was Trustee Dorn.
