It is my pleasure to share the College's January 14, 2022 Times Standard Education Matters article with you.
Happy New Year to everyone! I want to share a brief summary of the first Board of Trustees meeting of 2022. I attached several files to this summary that you may want to take a look at as you review the blog article. You'll find the two redistricting options from Planwest that was included in agenda packet, the Expanded Cabinet survey results related to the naming recommendations, the presentation Chris Gaines used when he discussed the EMP with the Trustees, and copies of Professor Riggs' and Sayles' sabbatical proposals.
Here is a copy of our December 31st Times Standard Education Matters article.
Professor Michelle Haggerty was quoted in the December 14 CalMatters article called "Unseen and unsafe: Students who have been 'deadnamed' explain why a new California law matters".
Michelle Haggerty, is quoted as saying said a new state law that requires public colleges to update diplomas and records for transgender students who have changed their names will help to reduce the anxiety of both students and professors and to create a more accepting environment on campus. If students are able to update their names on school records before the semester starts, it will erase any awkward scenarios where the professor may deadname a student by accident.
I strongly encourage you to read the article and see her full quote. Here's the link to the article: Transgender students praise new California 'deadnaming' law - CalMatters
Here's CR's December 17 Times Standard Education Matters article.
I am pleased to share with you that Crystal Morse was selected to co-chair of the Region 1 and 2 Northern California Intersegmental Articulation Council. The NCIAC is the Northern California division of the California Intersegmental Articulation Council, comprised of articulation professionals from the California Community Colleges, CSU, UC and independent institutions.
The NCIAC's recognition of Crystal's broad knowledge and proven leadership in counseling/advising, program coordination, transcript evaluation, and curriculum is a benefit to the College and the students we serve.
Congratulations to Crystal! We are very fortunate to have someone of her ability, dedication, and leadership at the College.
I am immensely proud to announce that Molly Blakemore was awarded a bronze medallion for her TV spot for March Madness from the National Council for Marketing & Public Relations (NCMPR). The NCMPR Medallion Awards recognize outstanding achievement in design and communication at community and technical colleges. The regional competition is exclusive to marketing and public relations professionals at two-year colleges.
She is our rockstar!

Here's a brief summary of the December 7,2021 Board of Trustees meeting in case you were not able to attend in-person or via youtube.
I want to echo Trustee Dr. Mullery's comment toward the end of the meeting acknowledging that this was Trustee Kelley's last board meeting as President of the Board and thanking him for his consistent leadership as we addressed issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
