Update on our Student Loan Default Rate

Great News! The latest official cohort default rates have been released.  If you’re unfamiliar with this term, the default rate is the percentage of students who fail to repay their student loans according to the terms of their promissory notes.

Our newly established Student Outreach Team, comprised of Lupita Martinez (Student Services Specialist from Counseling and Advising), Morgan Thompson (Student Services Specialist from Admissions and Financial Aid) and Jordan Walsh (Scholarship Coordinator) along with Marla Gleave (Dean of Career and Technical Education), Kevin Benjamin (EOPS) and Angela Stewart (Counseling) attended the 32nd Annual Humboldt College and Career Night at Eureka High School on September 23.

The CR/Humboldt County Jail Partnership

Kintay Johnson and Julia Peterson have been working together to bring our classes to inmates at the Humboldt County Jail. Kintay recently taught a CR Adult Education class at the jail where he encouraged students to register at CR upon release, so they can continue their education.

Educational Master Plan (EMP)

We are about to engage in a process to develop a revised Educational Master Plan (EMP) that is long-range, comprehensive and that will serve as the District’s blueprint for 2017-2022.  This Education Master Plan is intended to guide instructional and service program development, decisions about growth, resource allocation at both the District and campus/site levels, and continue to link budget to planning.


Moving forward with the Transfer of Territory Process

Upon ratification of the 2015-17 MOU by both Boards, College of the Redwoods and Mendocino College began collegial good faith discussions to move forward with permanently transferring our Mendocino Service Area from CR to MC effective June 30, 2017. President Reyes, CEO of Mendocino College, and I are sending a transfer of territory resolution and petition to our respective boards for approval that will kick off the transfer process.

12th Annual College of the Redwoods Athletics Dinner and Sports Auction

Attendance hit a record high with more than 450 people attending, making it the biggest annual fundraiser at the college.

Professor Hooper has been actively involved with students both inside and outside the classroom since 1991.
